About us

A full-time academy, not a gym

Kung Fu Haarlem-Amsterdam was founded by Sifu (master, teacher) Deniz Kara. We teach Wing Chun Kung Fu and Taiji Quan (Tai Chi) with a focus on mind, body and energy.

Classes also cover the history and theory behind the techniques, so you learn to apply Kung Fu’s centuries-old principles to your everyday life.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Do I need experience to start?

No. Everyone starts in the basic programme. Classes are structured so you join at your own level, even without any sports background.

Do you teach in English?

Classes are mainly taught in Dutch. International students are welcome. Mention it when you book your trial and we’ll tell you how we can help.

What’s the difference between Wing Chun and Wing Tjun?

It’s the same Southern Chinese Kung Fu style. Wing Chun, Wing Tsun and Wing Tjun are different Western spellings of the same Cantonese name (詠春).

From what age can my child join?

From age 4. Children train in age groups: Pandas (4–5), Tigers (6–10) and Dragons (10–16).

How does the free trial work?

You take two free, no-obligation trial classes. For children the first is a private lesson with a parent present, the second is with the group. A personal talk follows.

Where do you train?

In Haarlem at Houtmarkt 21 and in Amsterdam at Family Martial Arts, Nieuwpoortstraat 80.
