Kung Fu for kids

A complement to school. Your child builds confidence and develops social skills such as teamwork, respect and discipline.

Complementing school

Kung Fu as education

At Kung Fu Haarlem-Amsterdam we take your child’s success seriously. That’s why our Kung Fu programme is built like education: alongside martial arts and self-defence, every child works on character development.

Classes are taught by certified, experienced teachers trained in pedagogy and didactics, in a full-time academy.

  • I want my child not to be easily influenced by friends and classmates.
  • I want my child to have more perseverance and self-belief.
  • I want my child to laugh a lot, be happy and feel good in their own skin.

  • I want my child to stand up for themselves, while being helpful and kind.

Training groups

Three age groups

Ages 4–5

Pandas

Focused on motor skills and learning to listen well. Children develop hand-eye coordination, learn to jump, kick and punch, and work as a team. Their energy is focused in a positive way.

Ages 6–10

Tigers

An age when children learn to deal with others and function in groups, and when bullying can start to appear. Physically, this is when the foundation for their relationship with sport is laid.

Ages 10–16

Dragons

Focused on discipline and confidence. Children become young adults and face choices: which friends are good for me, do I follow the group? We help them think consciously and build strong character.

Programme

From basic to leadership

  1. Basic programme

Every child starts here, whatever their age group. Over roughly a year your child learns the basics of Kung Fu and gets stronger in coordination and fitness. The foundation for character development is laid too.

  2. Evaluation

After a year we sit down with you and your child to discuss how Kung Fu went and what’s been achieved. Together we decide whether your child is ready for the next step.

  3. Leadership programme

The start of the road to black belt. Your child learns to recognise and control emotions and apply Kung Fu principles in daily life. Key words: discipline, confidence, concentration and inner calm.

Children from both programmes train together. Basic students learn from leadership students, who in turn develop their social skills by sharing what they know.

Riginald R.Parent
Over the past year my children have not only grown physically, they’ve become much stronger mentally too. I notice it at home, at school and in the neighbourhood.

It’s great to see the boys training not just their bodies, but their minds as well.

FAQ

Questions from parents

From what age can my child do Kung Fu?

From age 4, in the Pandas group (4–5). Then come Tigers (6–10) and Dragons (10–16).

Won’t Kung Fu make my child more aggressive?

Quite the opposite. Children learn self-control, respect and how to resolve conflict without violence. Self-defence is always the last resort.

My child is being bullied. Can Kung Fu help?

Yes. Alongside regular classes we run the dedicated Bullyproof programme, focused on resilience and recognising and dealing with bullying.

Do I need to be there as a parent?

For the two trial classes, yes. After that you can simply drop off and pick up your child.

Does my child earn belts or certificates?

Yes. Children progress step by step to higher grades. The leadership programme is the start of the road to black belt.
